Critics of MWD say the increase is to compensate for financial mismanagement. Approved rate hikes through 2014 and projected increases through 2017 means higher monthly water bills for you the consumer for the next five years and maybe beyond.

Synthetic Turf Fields Dominate High School Sports In San Diego

Twenty-one of the twenty-four high schools that play soccer in San Diego's North County Conference, are using synthetic grass. Today's North County Times newspaper featured an article written by Tom Sheridan that focuses on the growth of artificial turf use within high school sports.

The article discusses the history of high school grass fields being difficult and unpredictable to play upon due to grass fields being often turned to dirt and mud. The games are now played upon a smoother, more consistent surface, that is resilient to weather and wear.

"Savings over grass fields are realized through significantly reduced water bills and maintenance costs. And for soccer, it provides a uniform and nearly flawless surface."

More and more fields are switching to synthetic turf. The artificial turf is aestetically pleasing, saves on water and maintenance, and creates a smoother playing field. Another reason for the trend is in the quality and improvement over the years in turf manufacturing:

As the title of the North County Times article truly states, "sport reaches higher ground on turf surfaces."

What Manning And Brady Have In Common - FieldTurf

With the Super Bowl days away, we wanted to take a flashback to both of this year’s Super Bowl quarterbacks College Career’s. Oddly enough we have found that although both Manning and Brady have only played on FieldTurf during their professional football careers, their respective alma maters both installed FieldTurf in their football stadiums years after they both graduated.

Eli Manning’s alma mater, Ole Miss, first installed FieldTurf at Aught Hemingway Stadium in 2009, making Ole Miss the first team in the Southeastern Conference to play their home games on turf. In fact, just recently it was released that Ole Miss will now install FieldTurf in their indoor football practice field. Installation is scheduled to be completed before this seasons’ opener on September 19th.

Although Tom Brady graduated from University of Michigan in 2000, shortly thereafter FieldTurf was installed in “The Big House”, Michigan’s main football stadium, on July 20, 2003. After nine years, everyone is still pleased with their FieldTurf and how durable it has proven to be.

21 NFL Teams Use FieldTurf Synthetic Grass

The "Big Game," as it is often being called, is a great way to celebrate the end of the NFL football season. Parties are thrown, large quantities of food is devoured, and new electronics are purchased all under the guise of watching a football game. But this year's football game is even more special to us here at EasyTurf. EasyTurf is a FieldTurf company, and this year's Super Bowl is being played on a field that uses our product, by two teams that have our FieldTurf installed in their home stadiums.

There are now 21 NFL teams that use FieldTurf. The Colts field, home of the Super Bowl, has been voted multiple times as the best turf surface in the NFL. The first installation in an NFL stadium was in 2002 for the Seattle Seahawks. Originally planned as a natural grass field, the Seahawks decided to install FieldTurf after they had played the two previous seasons in Husky Stadium on FieldTurf. Conventional artificial turfs, like AstroTurf, had been disliked by players due to the injuries and soreness associated with playing on the previous generations' harder surfaces. Seattle's coach, Mike Holmgren, said of the FieldTurf surface "it's about as much like grass as you can have a synthetic surface be" and that the "players love it".

Players are getting their first taste of our turf fields at high schools and colleges across the nation. More than 100 NCAA D-1 teams play and/or practice on FieldTurf, and over 1,000 high schools.

No matter who wins the Big Game, we are proud of our product and our teams.

Pink Turf For The NFL and Breast Cancer Awareness

As a way to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month back in October, the entire National Football League and the NFL players Association showed the largest on-field presence to encourage a national breast cancer screening-reminder and fund-raising campaign. This was to show and inspire women over 40 about the importance of having an annual mammogram while also fundraising for breast cancer research.

EasyTurf was more than thrilled to be able to help support this cause with the NFL Network. EasyTurf was able to create a custom NFL logo surrounded by 900 square feet of pink turf for the taping of their show during the month of October. Without actually having pink turf readily available, our team at our manufacturing plant had to combine both red and white yarn together in order to create the pink turf that was needed. In the end the entire NFL studio floor was covered with this unique pink turf in hopes to show their support and create awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Both Super Bowl Teams Play On FieldTurf – Coincidence?

The New England Patriots and the New York Giants both play their home football games on FieldTurf artificial grass. Both teams will play in the Super Bowl on February 5th, 2012. You do the math! Furthermore, the big game will be hosted at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, which has been voted the best artificial turf surface in the NFL. Did we mention that that is a FieldTurf surface also and the event marks the second time the Super Bowl will be played on FieldTurf (also Super Bowl XL at Detroit’s Ford Field)?

This week we have great pride that our product is being used by the best teams in the NFL.

"It's going to be a special week for FieldTurf, with the Patriots and Giants each practicing on the FieldTurf at both Lucas Oil Stadium and at the University of Indianapolis leading up to the Super Bowl,” said FieldTurf President Eric Daliere. “Of course, both of those teams play their home games on FieldTurf. To not only have the game played on FieldTurf, but to have the two Super Bowl participants be long-time FieldTurf supporters, it means a lot to our company and is a major source of pride for each and every FieldTurf employee."

New England Patriots and Gillette Stadium

The New England Patriots originally added FieldTurf to their stadium in November 2006 and recently upgraded to our Duraspine Pro model turf in February 2010. The original installation was done mid-season and in record time.

"FieldTurf’s 8-day installation at Gillette Stadium beat the company’s previous record, which was 18 days. Normally, FieldTurf prefers five or six weeks to install a surface, especially in the NFL. But to accelerate that process at Gillette Stadium, the company tripled the number of crews. Rotating in shifts so a fresh crew was always available, they worked 24 hours a day. During that time, we fed the crews and had the stadium lights on throughout the night, so they could get the job done as quickly as possible,”

In 2010 the Stadium decided to upgrade the turf, with an intent on pleasing FIFA, the governing body of international soccer. It is now the only field in the United States to have successfully passed FIFA 2-Star tests in back-to-back years.

New York Giants and MetLife Stadium
(Formerly New Meadowlands Stadium)

The New York Giants and Jets play in a relatively brand new stadium. Both their old stadium, their practice fields, and the new MetLife stadium utilize FieldTurf as their synthetic playing surface. In fact, 21 of the NFL’s 32 teams currently use FieldTurf at their stadium and/or practice complex. MetLife Stadium was the world’s first full color, removable end zone and midfield markings, allowing both the NY Jets and NY Giants to display all team appropriate field/end zone logos and markings during home games. Most notably, this development allows the midfield markings to change based upon which team is playing at home.

One of the first games to be played in the stadium was under extremely rainy conditions. But as ESPN reported in the below video, the FieldTurf surface drains exceptionally.

SuperBowl XLVI To Be Played On Synthetic Turf

This year’s big game will feature the New England Patriots, New York Giants, and FieldTurf . Not only do both team’s play on the artificial turf, but the Super Bowl will be held at Indianapolis Lucas Oil Stadium, which also features the synthetic grass made by FieldTurf. As the landscaping division of FieldTurf, EasyTurf is excited that our product has such prominence in the NFL.

Installed in 2008, the Indianapolis Colts playing surface has been voted twice (2010 and 2011) as the Best Artificial Turf Field in the NFL. In addition, FieldTurf NFL surfaces are consistently rated in the top 5 of all fields in the NFL.

Less than a week ago, EasyTurf was featured in a San Diego Union-Tribune E-Tearsheat. The employment feature, in the Classifieds Section K, was written by freelance writer Louis Shock from Encinitas. The article titled "EasyTurf Grows Business With Alternative To Water-Hungry Lawns," highlights how we are a low-maintenance, environmentally friendly lawn solution that reduces costs and problems associated with traditional grass yards.

The article continues to explore the different job openings available at EasyTurf, and the unbelievable work atmosphere. Quoting the Director of Marketing, the article attempts to describe the office personality. "We've worked hard to create a culture of genuine care and consideration for others. The management is dedicated to providing an exceptional customer experience, whether that be our core landscape customers or internally between departments."

Turf Solution For Pets - This Week's Installation Pictures

With dogs that like to dig, our client was looking for an artificial turf pet solution that would stand up to the rigors of animals. With dogs destroying the yard, this client was interested in synthetic grass that would make their yard attractive, low maintenance, and save them water on their utility bill. Putting Green Install At UTC Mall

University City Towne Center (UTC) is renovating and revitalizing its Westfield Shopping Center.

"It's all part of a community-inspired vision to revitalize Westfield UTC with cutting-edge design, environmentally sustainable materials and a host of modern conveniences. Expect airy pedestrian-friendly walkways, fun activities for the family, relaxing seating areas, eco amenities, green elements and an array of diverse new retail."

UTC had a goal of not only creating new shops and new walkways, but wanted to enhance the customer experience by creating a unique offering. An EasyTurf putting green is unique, gathers attention, and is interactive for shopping families. Enhancing the customer experience is also part of the mission of EasyTurf. With our goals aligned, Westfield UTC contracted with EasyTurf to install this one-of-a-kind shopping experience.

We built a putting green, using our True Roll Putting Green Surface. This build had a bit of a challenge to it. Not only was it to be built on the second floor, but it was to be built on uneven cement. But there is rarely a challenge that our design team cannot overcome.

The installation took approximately four days to complete and includes an 1100 square feet of putting green, and 760 square feet of green fringe.

The putting green is located in the Nordstrom wing of the mall, across from Restoration Hardware. Putters and golf balls can be checked out at the UTC concierge station.

The putting green was also recently featured in the San Diego Union Tribune.

Tracey Astorga received 247 votes, had 23 comments, and was viewed nearly 1,600 times. Although it was not a popularity contest, Tracey's entry was far-and-away the top viral submission. Read her emotional story:

I am a single mom for the last 9 years who struggled to keep a nice home for my 2 boys. When I met my boyfriend, Gilbert I was so glad someone was finally here to help me with the yard or as we called it the sand lot, all the neighborhood boys playing baseball, kickball etc.. So Gilbert recently started working on the yard but some unforeseen circumstance have prevented us from finishing it.

Gilbert got laid off and now his dad has been diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer so between the hospital and financial problems we have been unable to finish our yard. We actually want a family get together before his dad dies but our yard needs help. I saved up for a basketball hoop for my boys but since April they haven't been able to use it because the yard is in such a disarray. I work at Head Start, a school for low-income and special needs children providing resources in the community and now I love to receive help my boys. Thank you for considering to help my family.

From Dirt to Turf - East LA Kids Score Big Win

Today, the Boys & Girls Club of East Los Angeles unveiled a new, first-class soccer field at its main facility located on McDonnell Avenue in East Los Angeles. The synthetic "FieldTurf" soccer field will significantly enhance the Boys & Girls Club's sports, fitness and recreation programs, and directly benefit more than 2,500 children served by the Club in the East Los Angeles community. In addition, the Boys & Girls Club will also provide ongoing coached soccer programs for kids on a year-round basis.
The field was a gift to the Boys & Girls Club of East Los Angeles by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Embassy in Washington, DC. The initiative is part of the Embassy's partnership with the English Premier League soccer team, Manchester City Football Club, which first began when the Team toured the United States in the Summer of 2010.

Experts Say Using Synthetic Grass Will Mean Less Watering

SAN DIEGO -- Despite California's drought being declared over and the lifting of local water restrictions, experts say more can be done to conserve.

One adjustment thousands of Southern California residents have made is going green by replacing their real grass with artificial turf.

Officials with Vista-based EasyTurf said they have more than 8,000 satisfied customers. EasyTurf officials said the synthetic grass industry is skyrocketing around the country, especially in California where water is a rare commodity.

"People don't want to water. They don't want to have to pay the gardener. They don't want to take care of it themselves," said EasyTurf Director of Marketing Jackie Luper.

Business from contractors, developers and private individuals has remained steady despite several area water districts lifting restrictions on outdoor watering.

"You know the consumers are there, the demand is there," said Luper.

Tony Criss of AJ Criss Industries said calls for the fake grass to his landscaping company have increased 25 percent even though people can run their sprinklers all they want. The problem with doing that is the cost of water, which increased more than 40 percent for some people, has remained the same.

"This is something that I think people are finally realizing that we have to do something and that's certainly a way to do it," said Criss.

Home builders like Colrich are keeping up the awareness by displaying artificial turf in some of their new models in Carlsbad.

"Well, we just think long term it's going to be very important and critical to San Diego," said builder Kirk Philo.

Developers and builders said it's important to remember San Diego will always be a desert.
"We know that within the next few years that we're going to get right back into the same situation," said Criss.
