EasyTurf Brings Synthetic Turf to Guide Dogs of the Desert Facility

The school, which provides highly trained guide dogs and individual instruction to the blind, contracted EasyTurf—the official Coachella Valley distributor of FieldTurf synthetic turf—to install more than 2,000 square feet of FieldTurf synthetic turf in three main areas of the facility—the main kennel, the dormitory and in front of the office.

“Real grass wouldn't grow because the rabbits kept eating it,” says Kim Laidlaw, deputy executive director of Guide Dogs of the Desert International, “So the dogs were forbidden to go on it because of all the rabbit droppings left behind.”

Frustrated with the rabbits getting the best of the dogs, Laidlaw reached out to EasyTurf who completed the installation in time for this year's graduation.

With the installation in place, “They love it,” continues Laidlaw.

Besides being free of rabbits, who have no interest in nibbling on faux grass, the new lawn is a lush, green contrast to the desert sand and requires no watering and very little maintenance. Most importantly, it is non-toxic and environmentally-friendly and is made from recycled scrap tires and tennis shoes. FieldTurf even has a patented draining capacity that stands up to anything dogs dish out.
